Dolphins in the Waves

Aussie Christmas!
 Friday Nov 14th - Dolphins

It’s hard to believe it is Friday and the end of another week.  We are up, have coffee, breakfast and decide that we will stay another day before we head towards Melbourne.

The ocean over the spit.
The dolphins!
Stumpy Lizard.
We get ready for our hike to the spit carrying water and wearing sun screen and hats. It is quite hot out. The walk is through the trees, along the shore, and over sections of boardwalk.  The trek is signed as 5 km’s return and it is a long, hot walk.  Eventually we get to the Entrance and sure enough we find the Dolphins and the Seals playing in the surf. We watched as all five dolphins jumped side by side, as though we had our own private dolphin show.  They certainly were having fun in the waves at the entrance of the harbour.

We watch for a long time.  Then as the dolphins head out to sea, and the wind picks up, we start our return trip.  On the path we stop abruptly as there is something moving.  I, in fact, was just a wee bit panicked and had to be assured it had legs! It looked like a snake head, but we eventually see the little legs and realize we are looking at a lizard, of some sort, in the sand, right in the middle of the path.  We skirt around it and carry on our way.  It was a stumpy lizard.

Finally, after a long, and very hot walk, we returned to the footbridge. A lemon popsicle helped! As soon as we headed to the bridge a cold wind hit and the weather had changed.  We needed heat in the cabin!

Back at the cabin we have lunch, fresh fruit, and corn cakes with peanut butter and honey and a bit of a rest.

Tomorrow we head on towards Melbourne.
