Proggy and Hooky Rugs

Tuesday 11th Nov
Remembrance Day here in Australia - a day early for Canadians!

This lorikeet was posing for us.

Visited Miriam Miller’s Rug hooking studio in Milton near Mollymook where we spent the night.  I have looked for rug hookers everywhere, here in Australia, and found Miriam on the internet.  What a lovely visit.  The hooking is quite different using very wide cut and prody techniques.  She has written an excellent book explaining how to create these rugs, Proggy and Hooky Rugs.  I had to purchase one for myself and Mrs. P.

Miriam has had another visitor from Canada, Karen Kaiser from Bellville, not far from my home and Gene Field from California, interestingly enough I follow his blog.

Miriam welcomed us into her home.  The design of her home is also very friendly with large French doors throughout, overlooking a magnificent view of her old farm in the hills below.  The gardens are tremendous.  Her daughter was tending the gardens when we were there.  Mirium was teaching Jill how to rug hook. Jill is from the Kangaroo Valley area who is also a fiber artist.

Miriam has beautiful hooking throughout her home.  What a great studio! She recommended that I purchase a Snapdragon instead of a hoop and demonstrated how to use it.  I quite like it.

What a wonderful visit. Miriam served coffee and fresh, hot, cheese scones outside on the porch. What a magnificent view.
What a lovely visit!

Later we spend the afternoon walking along the coast as the tide is out.  The rock was beautiful.
