Kangaroo Valley - No Kangaroos Again!

Alan managed to get this shot.

Monday 10th Nov.

The weather has definitely cooled off south of Sydney and we may even need to put on a jacket today.

Fitzroy Falls

Down the highway is Fitzroy Falls and Kangaroo Valley.

Fitzroy Falls
The road has been beautiful to this point, rolling farmland, beautiful fields and lots of greenery indicative of a lush climate area.  Gone is the hot, dry, dust fields we have experience to this point, except for the Daintree of course.

View from the escarpment.

Termite mound.
Not far down the road we enter what app
Galah
ears to be a rainforest and soon we are at Morton National Park and Fitzroy Falls.  We enter the site and follow the directions to the falls walking a nice stream side walk along Yarrunga Creek, we come to a clearing and are absolutely amazed at what unfolds before us.  From the edge of the forest you walk onto a lookout platform affixed to the edge of this massive gorge and marvel at the breathtaking fall as the river cascades to the gorge floor meters below.

Lyre Bird

Best Bakery ever in Milton.
We just stand and stare as the beauty then carry on up the falls path.  There are information plates that we read as we move along and one talks about a Lyrebird which to us looks something like a peacock.  Not far along we hear a different bird song and right in front of us is the Lyrebird.

The drive to Manning Lookout is very narrow with steep edges.  At the end we find another spectacular lookout showing overviews of Kangaroo Valley and Budderoo National Park.  The vistas are breathtaking and to the north side are these three story amazing rock stacks.

Back on the road we find the signs to the Kangroo Valley and the trip down.  It is a winding, twisty road, very similar to the roads we navigated in New Zealand with two way traffic and no room for error around the hair pin turns. No Kangaroos to be seen!

The Coast
The trip is beautiful down the escarpment and we enjoy it immensely.  Across the valley we find a suspension bridge and marvel at its design.  Later we learn that this is the first suspension bridge every built in Australia.
